This 110 sqm (1200 sq ft) apartment is on the 2nd floor (with an elevator) of a very fine residential building of the early 20th century. It has double glazed windows and faces a large inside courtyard, a combination that provides a quiet as well as a light filled interior. The main apartment door enters directly into a lovely, large living room in which there are several couches, a table and chairs for dining, a TV, CD/Radio/DVD player and a free Internet wireless WiFi connection. On the far wall of the room there is a large, built in, well equipped, open kitchen which includes a stove with a gas oven, a refrigerator, microwave oven, washing machine, an electric kettle and an iron and ironing board. There are 3 bedrooms with non-separable queen size beds. The blue bedroom (n. 1) has a TV and the red bedroom (n. 2) has an additional single sofa bed. Each room has its own ensuite bathroom (2 with a stall shower and 1 with a tub). There are 2 hairdryers in the unit and a baby cot. The furniture is simple but refined and includes antiques and modern pieces. The courteous hostess speaks English & French. No smoking and no pets, please.
The apartment is within easy walking distance to Stazione Ostiense where there is a train connection to Fiumicino airport. Also at Ostiense is the Piramide stop of Subway Line B which arrives at the Colosseum in 2 stops and at the main RR station (Stazione Termini) in the center of town in 4 stops. From that point there is public transportation to all sections of Rome. The local train to the ruins of Ostia and the Roman seaside is just around the corner from Ostiense.
Directly across the street from Stazione Ostiense is the celebrated English Cemetery (Cimitero acattolico) in which both Keats and Shelley are buried and a section of the city's ancient Aurelian Wall. The Centrale Montemartini museum is in the area of the apartment. Originally a 1920's power generating plant it has been transformed into a fascinating museum displaying both the original generating equipment and a permanent exhibit of about 400 ancient Roman sculptures. Stop for a drink at the Pasticceria/Bar Andreotti on Via Ostiense, one of the many restaurants, pizzerias and ethnic restaurants in the area or visit the adjacent historic districts of Trastevere and Testaccio, very interesting sections of old Rome which are full of shops and restaurants and a lively night life. Of special interest in this area is the famous Porta Portese market, a sprawling open-air flea market open only on Sunday mornings which attracts a crowd of hundreds. A true Roman adventure.
